Soapstone is a soft metamorphic rock that is found in vast deposits in Kenya's Gusii Highlands. Gusii carvers have developed great skill at hand carving the stone into beautiful sculpture and useful items.

We work with finishing workshops in or near Nairobi that purchase raw shapes from the Gusii and apply their own unique finishes. This stunning red floral pattern has already been one of our most popular, so we added a set of coasters to help round out the selection.
