This unique collar is a masterpiece of African beadwork that adds a unique and earthy beauty to your feline friend.
The collars are made with care by a group of Maasai women in rural Kenya. Each collar is hand-beaded in the pictured design, though no two collars are identical.
The cow leather of the collar is quite soft and will stand the test of time with occasional conditioning. Adjustable holes provide for a perfect fit, and the collar also includes a ring for hanging an identification tag.
We met Agnes and Catherine of the Kisinyunye beading cooperative in the village of Ngong, near Nairobi. Representing a handful of Maasai ladies who create unique functional and decorative items using traditional Maasai beading methods, the women graciously displayed a variety of items we had a hard time passing by in their small shop in the heart of the village.
We tried to orchestrate a visit out to the rural bomas to meet all the women involved in the beading, but our time was short and we had to agree to plan a visit next time.
In the end, we found beaded dog and cat collars to be a perfect complement to our line, and a great way to initiate a relationship with this talented group of Maasai women.
